An ethical hacker, also called a white hat hacker, is an information security expert who systematically attempts to infiltrate a computer system, network, application, or other computing resource on behalf of its owners-and with their permission-to find security vulnerabilities that an attacker could potentially exploit.
The purpose of ethical hacking is to assess security and identify vulnerabilities in systems, networks or system infrastructure. It includes searching for and attempting to exploit any vulnerabilities to determine whether unauthorized access or other malicious activity is possible.
Ethical hackers use their skills and many of the same methods and techniques to test and bypass the it security of organizations as their unethical counterparts, who are called black hat hackers. However, instead of exploiting any vulnerabilities they find for personal gain, ethical hackers document them and give advice on how to fix them so that organizations can strengthen their overall security.
Ethical hackers typically detect security risks in insecure system configurations, known and unknown hardware or software vulnerabilities, and operational weaknesses in the process or technical countermeasures.
Any organization that has an Internet-connected network or provides an online service should consider testing it for penetration by ethical hackers.
The uses of ethical hacking
ethical hackers help companies determine which of their it security measures are effective, which have to be renovated and contain weaknesses that may be exploited. when ethical hackers interrupt an organisation’s systems, they inform the company leaders about these affects, such as lack of sufficient encryption, uncertain applications or open systems with uninstallable software. the organisations can use these test data to make informed decisions about where and how to improve their security to prevent cybernetics.
it points to the methods used by Cybernetics. these demonstrations show the executions that bad actors use to attack their systems and destroy their businesses. companies that have in-depth knowledge of the methods used by attackers to infiltrate their systems are better able to prevent this.
Helps in preparation for a cyber attack. Cyber attacks can cripple or destroy businesses, especially small businesses. However, most companies completely απροετοίμαστες to cyber attacks. Ethical hackers understand how threat operators work, and know how these bad actors will use new information and techniques to attack systems. Security professionals working with moral hackers are better prepared for future attacks because they can better respond to the ever-changing nature of Internet threats.
